storyboards that hold together, and gpt-5.6 goes public

july 10, 2026

most of what I saved this week was people trying to solve the same problem: turn a storyboard into finished video that stays consistent shot to shot. seedance kept showing up as the best tool for that. gpt-5.6 is out and its as good as claude's fable model for much cheaper token usage. here's what stood out.

GPT-5.6 goes public — OpenAI opened the whole GPT-5.6 family (Sol, Terra, Luna) to everyone on July 9 and it's now ChatGPT's default. The part worth caring about isn't the flagship — it's that Terra reportedly matches last-gen GPT-5.5 for about half the cost, and Luna is a cheap tier at ~$1 per million input tokens. That's the tier you point at batch captioning, script passes, and automation without watching the meter.

an app you should know about

Shortcat — click anything on your mac without touching the mouse. hit ⌘⇧Space, type a couple letters of whatever button, link, or menu item you're looking at, press return — clicked. i often use it to search menu bar items inside of Davinci or Chrome - I'll type "q play" for DaVinci Resolve • Playback • Timeline Playback Resolution • Quarter or "gap" for DaVinci Resolve • Edit • Delete Gaps. in chrome i will use to to pull up specific extensions such as Claude or Unhook Youtube

cool computer stuff

comfyui storyboard — HooTooH walking through a storyboard flow built in ComfyUI.

StemFM — splits any song into vocals, drums, bass, and melody in real time so you can remix or re-DJ it on the fly. Interesting as a source of stems for edits, or just as a toy.

from my x bookmarks

@dotta — a /wireframe skill in Paperclip — says Fable 5 is good enough at wireframes that they shipped it as a built-in skill, and it spits out a shareable website of the wireframe for the team. He uses it for basically every new feature now.

@adilinthewild — "AI can't act, so I sent mine to therapy" — a two-minute, eight-scene short about a footballer who missed his World Cup penalty, all Seedance 2.0 in 4K, directed by Claude Fable 5 inside Higgsfield. He's sharing every prompt and the skill for free.

that's the week — mostly storyboards learning to move. see you next one.
